Hello USA.gov folks!
Thanks for asking for our opinions. I appreciate the opportunity to provide some feedback about this information clearinghouse. On the whole, I think the USA.gov team does a great job managing an enormous amount of information. I do have a few ideas, as described below:
–It sounds like you have already received feedback about making USA.gov pages shorter and more focused, but I would encourage you to simplify the main landing page. The current home page is full of information, but it is pretty overwhelming. The current tabs make sense, however, they are very small, and my eyes are quickly pulled to other words and items of interest on the page. Perhaps the main page could have less text, and a more graphical display of the main groups currently have listed as tabs (citizens, businesses, government employees, visitors) with brief examples of the kinds of info users would find behind each one.
–Highlight the video tutorials you already have in place, and reorder them by how frequently they are accessed. Depending on the feedback you get on this forum, it may make sense to create new video tutorials on topics that were frequently mentioned by users.
–Remove the “Get it done online” box, at least from the main landing page. It takes up prime space and may be more appropriate when customized for each of the main groups listed above.
–Continue asking for feedback.
Good luck compiling all of the information you have received from users. I look forward to seeing USA.gov as it evolves into an even more user-friendly resource.
I would really like to see a link under Persons With Disability that would take a person to another Web Page. This Web Page would be dedicated specifically to The Teaching of the Able Bodied Person about the Disabled. All Disabilities would be Included as well as all aspects of these peoples lives. The intent of the teaching would ultimatly be inclusion for the Disabled Persons.
As a Disabled Person in a wheelchair for over 32 years the most commen questions I have heard is – I don’t know what to say to the Disabled Person – I don’t know how to act around the Disabled Person – I don’t know if I am to help the Disabled Person or not to help the Disabled Person, given a specific situation.
There are many other questions that could be answered on a Web Site that could help teach the Able Bodied Person to feel comfortable with all Disabled Persons. Inturn the Disabled Person would also feel less intimadated through unintentual transferance.
The matrix of sexual harassment is an example of how to interact. Is the Disabled Person any less deserving? I Kindly Thank You for reading this!
I think it would be good if the site were laid materials press conferences in the government. Or would be a moderator, who on this site accumulates questions and then the government responds to them.

Easy and usability needs improvement. On several occasions, my resumes and supporting documents are not transferred over to the Application Manager Site or I have to keep switching web browsers to get everything working. Mentioned earlier is the need to jump from one domain/website to another. I’d like the ability to drag-n-drop my supporting documents “into” an “inbox” to attach them to my application for a job. I’d like more feedback notifications for positions I’ve applied for, usually after a job has been submitted, you get one or two updates and that’s it. No notice of advancement, further consideration or ‘you made it to the first round, but not the second round’ in the selection processes. Also, the search feature seems limited, I usually select a state or country and have to weed through the positions based on closing dates. Finally, thanks for the opportunity to offer suggestions, hopefully you can weed through all the other comments and glean something good.
Not quite intuitive navigation through the site. 2-3 clicks will not find the necessary information. Must work on website usability.

Get Japan, Germany and any other country (that used US $$’s) to give or loan without interest the billions of $$’s the US gave to them to redevelop their country.
Withdraw every American troop from any and all foreign countries. Assign all those troops to all America’s boarders. (Atlantic & Pacific oceans)
Require every US delegate to use commercial airlines, coach.
Send every US prisoner to the desert to ware pink cloths and live in tents.
Increase 10% all luxury tax on jewels, antiques, works of art and 2nd homes over $1M.
You’ll be surprised how fast the money comes rolling in.

There is no better country than my GOOD ALL U.S.A. We have some shortfalls that need to be corrected, namely the class system of the rich vs the middle class, illegal public acts being pushed off as a moral issues (homosexual vx heterosexual); procreation is only done by man and woman – two opposite sexs – not Jane and Sue or Johnny and James. No I am not homophobic, but real. We must regain morality and ethics and our democracy will become strong again. Our seniors who have made our beautiful democracy are treated like vermin, while an illegal immigrant can get free medical and become an automatic citizen (their illegal offspring happened to be born in this wonderful land). Why can’t senior citizens of our democracy be given 5 years of WIC, free medical (Medicaid), housing (Section 8), etc. These monetary cost should be given to our elderly and veterans. They come first. What I don’t like about our government is basically five things:
(1) the lack of immigration enforcement, (2) failure to provide for our wounded veterans and their families, (3) failure to sustain the minimum health and monetary benefits for our seniors, (4) lack of government oversight and enforcement of the existing laws and (5) invasion of the privacy rights of its citizens. We are a democracy, not a draconian, capitalistic society of the rich versus the non-rich. God Bless America, Land that I Love!

DEAR usajobs.com,
I EXPERIENCE TREMENDOUS INCONSISTIES IN THE SYSTEM WHEN IT COMES TO APPLYING FOR A FEDERAL JOB. SOMETIMES THE RESUME THAT IS STORED IN THE USAJOBS SYSTEM GETS ATTACHED AND THEN IT ISN’T ATTACHED. I NEVER KNOW UNTIL I GET A RESPONSE FROM THE HIRING AGENCY THAT I WAS DISQUALIFIED FOR NOT SUBMITTING ALL THE REQ’D DOCUMENTS (RESUME, TRANSCRIPTS). I SPEND SO MUCH TIME ANWSERING THE ONLINE QUESTIONAIRES THEN ‘POOF’ THE RESUME DOESN’T GET SUBMITTED AND THE QUESTIONAIR IS ERASED. VERY FRUSTRATING.
ALSO, I RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR A DUE DATE OF MIDNIGHT CHRISTMAS EVE TO SUBMIT TRANCSRIPTS, OF COURSE I WAS OUT OF STATE FOR THIS TIME FRAME LIKE MOST PEOPLE, IF THERE REALLY IS AN OPENING AND YOU WANT TO BE “FAIR” WHY A CHRISTMAS EVE DEADLINE, NOTICE WAS SENT OUT TWO DAYS PRIOR BY DHS? TLK

We are glad that the public is taking time to provide us comments to help improve the Federal Government’s website USA.gov. Your comment, unfortunately, is for USAJOBS.gov, which is a different website. If you would like to visit USA.gov and leave us comment regarding how it can be improved, we would be happy to read it. The US Gov. is a good source of information, I enjoy reading it and passing it on to others. You need more infromation on Senior Rights, we are getting pushed around and our money we worked for that we put in S.S. is being stolen by congress and the President. They never worked for this money, and they will never pay it back. Leave the health insurance alone, keep your fingers out of it. Deport these imagrants and get our country back. Make Welefare people take a drug test and insist they work at a goverment job each month before they get welfare, or food stamps.

There are no sites that dedicate to the mentally ill. Sure a bill was passed but it only includes the physically handicapped. Where do you find information available to the mentally handicapped?

The federal government has the website http://www.disability.gov, which is dedicated to helping people with disabilities. It is not focused on any one type of disability. You can also do a search on USA.gov on disability-related topics to find more information. If you use USA.gov, feel free to share your opinion of how well it does, or does not, help you. Thanks.

Actually I have been using this site for years before it was US Gov it had another name I believe. I use ti for all sorts of things and give the URL to firends and family. I am a Veteran and this is where I first began to look for things for myself and others– I would like a page strictly for Veterans to go to and began their search– There are so many more of us now that need to be able to find the information quickly and easily and I think if we could click on an index and it would take us to the page we need to go to that would be wonderful. I recall a few years ago when I clicked on something and it asked me different questions and at the end told me what benefits I could have– I have not been able to find that page since and I think that would be more than helpful for all Veterans. Thank you

You’re correct, USA.gov had a different name for the first several years of its existence. It was FirstGov.gov
You might find USA.gov’s Veterans pages to be helpful: http://www.usa.gov/Federal_Employees/Veterans.shtml

I think we would have a much better govt. if there were term limits on the congressmen (2 terms ) and the Senators (2 terms) There would be much less of an attitude that “I’ll get this bridge (or whatever ) for my district so I can show the people back home what I have done for them.

I am here and on all sites that deals with the total disgrace that the United States has throughout the world on its care and treatment on the nations veterans and soon to bee’s. When the very people that have taken you (the US) to the dance and you treat them like dirt. care like the only veterans with dental care are the one with service connected injuries to the mouth and 100% disabled what wrong with full care for all veterans they were there to put their lives on the line should they not have equal care with the ones that did bear the wounds. The next point within the rules and laws governing veterans care (38USC) is an item 4.25 combined ratings table, this table does the very thing that corporations and big business was doing to injured employees before the HYCRIPAL government enacted the AMERICANS WITH DISABILITY ACT. AND MY FELLOW AMERICANS THIS IS THE REAL KICK IN THE POSTERIER AMERICAN VETERANS ARE BEING TREATED EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHEN A FEW OF THE SOUTHERN STATES WHERE PROVIDING THEIR CHILDERN A SEPARATE BUT EQUAL EDUCATION. WILL MY FELLOW AMERICANS IT IS WAY PAST TIME TO MAKE THE veterans OF AMERICA WHOLE AGAIN. Disables veterans receive in monthly compensation of their wounds $2,673 if they are single and if the vet is married and has one child $2,932.
My fellow American’s with all the money this government gives to senseless things why can we not get the veterans of this great nation out of poverty and back in the upper middle class. Please i beg you go and talk to your friends neighbors, fellow workers. Then force the government to pay the wounded warriors at or above what a first year congress person makes. The vet is a great patriotic and loves his country i do not know about congress if it is a love of nation or the money they can bank from above and below the board.

I use the site to see what’s going on in the government but mostly to look for job announcements. At one time I used it just for the latter. I think this is a great Government and country and those Americans that critisize it have every right to their opinion and every right to live here. I complained about all the rules and regulations that my parents had when I lived with them and that’s why I moved out. Do you get what I’m saying?
BTW, President Obama was not on the Food Network. You obiviously did not watch the Iron Chef battle. The Whitehouse chef was on and they used all produce that is grown at the Whitehouse by Mrs. Obama. I was amazed at the wonderful things that is grown there is such a short time. The produce is used at the Whitehouse on a daily basis and they even donate some to the community. She did have a very short appearance in the beginning of the 2 hour episode. And the Whitehouse chef won.

The question here is “What do you think of the US Gov’t – my answer to this is – its just out of control. Gov’t needs to be for the people, by the people and not for the legislators and by the legislators. I think the president should stick to his JOB and do that well instead of globe trotting and appearing on the food network and late night TV.
I believe we should keep health insurance as it is.
Illegals should be deported
And gov’t should stop wasting my tax dollars and not give to every Tom, Dick and Harry who apply for it.
After all I am unemployed, worked for a not for profit so there is no unemployment yet I pay all my bills from savings and when that runs out I might loose my house if I don’t get another job – Do you see me standing in line for a handout – I have pride – I would NOT

i do fully see your point and yes you need a job and with good wages. I am now retired and i believe that we must get this nation educated with about 35% in college and the rest in the very best trade schools of all kind there is a lot to do a lot of people to get back to retrain and i know you have many skills you can pass on to this next generation. When you and I were young we were told one time and then we would get the hell bet out of us. keep tring i am praying for the whole nation. good luck

The site needs to have structure. Perhaps Topic (eg Health Care) and under that Poblems, Questions + Answers, Pros/Cons with proposed solutions and finally a recommended Conclusion/Solution.

USA Gov as an avenue to find agencies with information that I need is a good idea. Once the agency is found, USA Gov should hand me off to the agency along with the data it had used to identify my need to access this agency.

I used the sites to keep up on what is going on in the goverment , I just about chec out all of mthe different sites. I’am Millitary Retired and now on disability. So I check out military and SSI the most. But I also check out the other sites to ceep up with what is going on. I’am registered with most of your sites, and they send me email when somthing come out or when ther are. changes. I injoy USA.gov because it keep me well informed. As far as the U.S Goverment. I feel that it is the best Goverment in the world, and I have seen alot off other Goverments . Now as far as some of the people running it the only thing that they care about is there own welfar . Not the people that they were elected to serve.

My apologies–now realize my previous postings are irrelevant to this discussion.
I’ve used USA.gov on and off, and find it pretty much user-friendly.
It’s vital that the website is in English, our national language. But it’s a learning experience to see it in other languages.
What’s been handy is receiving e-mail updates.

To reduce funding to the Arab countries, home of the terrorists, the federal and state governments should increase gasoline tax. That tax money then will stay here in U.S. to pay for renewable energy, road/bike-lane maintence, etc. — jan 8, 2010
